Why is it the media look so smug when they see right wing politics struggling. The media in this country is so 'left' in my view. What has happened to neutral reporting. I couldn't believe at the last election how blatant the media aligned themselves with Labour.

Most journalists have an academic background. Few of them have ever owned a business. A bit like the Labour MPs!

Their world-view is skewed towards a nanny state which is all they have ever known.

To be fair, National don't have any strong policies to attract attention yet.

We need some real leadership in this country. Why can't all the political parties get together to make policies that work for everybody? Why do we have to have different parties? Why can't we have one party working specifically for our interests and not theirs?

Er.......yes. Robert Mugabe agrees with you. As does Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, Kim Jong Ill...........

Essentially the vigour of humanity comes from variety. Differing points of view. If we all agreed with each other, it would be a boring world. Dangerous too because we might not collectively recognise mistakes. We certainly wouldn't have innovation which is only possible because individuals think outside the square.

No-one has all the right ideas. So we are much better to have a Parliament with political divisions where different ideas can be argued.

I kind of agree with your point of view Winston. I'd not looked at it like that. I just wish we could stop disagreeing on issues based on political power. We live in a great country. I just think we could do so much better. Yeah you are right National does not have any better leadership - which is a shame.

Hasn't this all changed! Since my original post in July 06 the media has done a full circle. Now John Key is well in charge, way ahead in the polls. Personally I feel Helen does not really have her sights on winning. She is ready to move on and work on the world stage.

The media do like to jump on Labour as much as National. Its just ones own view skews or reacts to something more than other.

The real issue with the media is how they like to make small things big but hate to actually investigatre real issues. Why you may ask? Because its cheaper and sensationalised, thus making it more appealing to a broader audience.

In other words its the media being lazy.

Isn't this year going to be interesting. Many people say National (being way ahead in the polls) will piss in....but will they? I wouldn't cross Helen off the list. Lets face it she is pretty good with the spin and in the end I'd say whoever wins it's going to be close.

National will need to get the Maori party in with them otherwise they simply won't get the numbers. A friend of mine came up with a fantastic idea. Get National to give the Maori party the social welfare and correction portfolios.

They are the right people for the job. I'd back an idea like that.
